What About Dr. Who in 2012?

by Brian on June 21, 2011

Dr. Who is returning to the BBC  in 2012, but only as a partial season.  The reason for this curtailment is that Dr. Who is written by one writer, Steven Moffat, who also writes the popular BBC series Sherlock. His time is being divided between the programs while he also attempts to eat and sleep.

There are better expectations for Dr. Who during 2013, when the show will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary.

Here in the States, we’re used to popular shows having a team of writers. We can’t help but feel amazed that there isn’t one more qualified Brit out there to help write Dr. Who episodes.  Really, one guy?  We know the BBC budget is always a bit constrained, but my goodness. You could probably get any number of fans to volunteer their help.

In the meantime, we leave you with this irreverent Dr. Who clip, explaining why the exterior of the Tardis looks like a Police Box.  This is very scientific, so pay attention!

Turkeys Away!

by on November 7, 2010

Twenty-two years ago in TV Land, one of the most memorable holiday episodes in tv history aired. A little rock and roll radio station in Cincinnati was looking for a unique promotion for the holidays. The station manager Mr Carlson, wanting to be more involved in the day to day operations, came up with a promotion that couldn’t go wrong. The only problem was, everything did go wrong. As Les Nessman reported on scene, live turkeys were released from a helicopter and proceeded to hit the pavement like “sacks of wet cement”. They bombed a shopping mall with live turkeys. Mr. Carlson, upon returning to the station, was incredulous that his plan didn’t work. He explained to everyone, “As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”

Every year, as we settle down to a delicious turkey dinner during the holidays, I remember Les Nessman’s Hindenburg-esque reporting of the event and Mr. Carlson’s confession that he though turkeys could fly. And every year, it puts a smile on my face.
